Shawver Production company Platinum Dunes [3] Sunday Night Productions [3] Distributed by Paramount Pictures Release date March 19, 2020 (UK/AU) March 20, 2020 (US) Country United States Language American Sign Language English A Quiet Place Part II is an upcoming American horror film and sequel to A Quiet Place (2018). The sequel film was written and directed by John Krasinski and stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, reprising their roles from the first film. Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou also joined the cast. Krasinski also reprises his role from the first film in newly-filmed flashback sequences. Talks of a sequel began in April 2018 following the box office success of the first film. By the following August, Krasinski was writing the film, and he was hired in February 2019 to direct. Production took place in Western New York from June to September 2019. Paramount Pictures plans to release A Quiet Place Part II in theaters in the United Kingdom and Australia on March 19, 2020. It will release the film in theaters in the United States and Canada on March 20, 2020. Synopsis "Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. " [1] Cast Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott Millicent Simmonds as Regan Abbott, Lee and Evelyn's daughter and Marcus’s sister Noah Jupe as Marcus Abbott, Lee and Evelyn's son and Regan’s brother Cillian Murphy as Emmett. Murphy described his character Emmett, "For me, Emmett represents where the heart of the world lies right now, which is: finally feeling like they’ve all given up. Here comes this girl [Regan] who allows you to believe in more, and allows you to believe in yourself. That idea, I’ve always been really enthralled by. " [4] John Krasinski as Lee Abbott, Evelyn's deceased husband and Regan and Marcus's father. [5] He appears in newly-filmed flashback sequences. Krasinski said he wrote himself into the sequel because the first film "was such a personal experience" and his "love letter" to his children. He said, "It was really important for me to continue the metaphor and we actually start dealing with how this all started. " [6] Production Paramount Pictures produced the first film, A Quiet Place, on a budget of $17 million. [7] Paramount released the film in the United States and Canada in April 2018 and grossed $50. 2 million on opening weekend, well above a mid-$20 million forecast. Later in April, Paramount Chair and CEO Jim Gianopulos announced that a sequel was in development. The first film ultimately grossed $188 million in the US and Canada and $340. 9 million worldwide. [8] John Krasinski, who co-wrote, directed and starred in the first film, said he considered it "as a one-off" but that with the sequel planned, he started considering the larger fictional universe to explore possibilities. [9] The first film's screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods did not return for the sequel. Woods said they were not interested in a franchise approach and that they would rather try "to create original ideas" and use their writing credits "as an opportunity to push several projects". [10] Beck said, "Instead of focusing on sequels per se, it's about investing back into the ecosystem of original ideas in a massive marketplace. " [11] In August, Krasinski was writing the film, and a director had not been hired yet. [12] According to Krasinski, Paramount rejected pitches from other writers and directors that were considered too franchise-oriented, and the studio invited him to write a script based on his "tiny idea that fit that world and could be exciting". [13] Cinematographer Polly Morgan described the sequel's approach, "It's more about the children growing up, exploring the world and learning to protect themselves. " [14] By February of 2019, Krasinski was hired to direct the sequel, and actors Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe were confirmed to reprise their roles. [15] In March, Cillian Murphy joined the cast. [16] In the following June, Brian Tyree Henry joined the cast, [17] but he left the film due to scheduling problems. He was replaced by Djimon Hounsou in August. [18] In June, production began on the sequel. [19] Filming officially commenced on July 15, 2019. [20] There were 47 days of filming throughout Western New York, including locations like Akron, Olcott, Dunkirk, Lackawanna, and Buffalo. [21] Other locations included Erie County and the city of North Tonawanda, [22] and Barcelona Harbor in the town of Westfield in Chautauqua County. [23] Filming also took place on a sound stage in Buffalo. One of the last filming locations, the northbound South Grand Island Bridge, was shut down for 13 hours for filming. [24] The production invested over $10 million in Upstate New York, created 400 hires, and involved 300 background actors. [25] By late September, production was finished. [26] Marketing Paramount Pictures previewed a 30-second teaser trailer for A Quiet Place Part II before select theatrical screenings of Black Christmas, which was released on December 13, 2019. Less than a week later, the teaser trailer became available online. A full trailer was released on January 1, 2020. [1] During pre-game coverage before the Super Bowl LIV on February 2, 2020, Paramount released a 30-second TV spot, [5] which revealed that Krasinski reprised his role in a newly-filmed flashback sequence. [27] In March, Paramount plans to initiate "survival room" experiences in New York and Los Angeles in which groups of visitors can try to overcome "physical and mental obstacles" without making too much noise. [28] Paramount will also host a double-feature event that screens the first and second films with collectors prints provided to attendees. [29] Release Paramount Pictures plans to release A Quiet Place Part II in theaters in the United Kingdom and Australia on March 19, 2020. [30] It will release the film in theaters, including Dolby Cinema and IMAX, in the United States and Canada on March 20, 2020. [1] The film was initially scheduled to be released on May 15, 2020. [31] Box office forecast In January 2020, BoxOffice predicted the film would gross $72 million in its opening weekend. It based the forecast on the first film's success on its own opening weekend ( $50. 2 million) and in the long run, the sequel's early social metrics being strong, and the continued involvement of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. The site did however note that the film would face competition from the likes of Mulan and No Time to Die. [32] In February, early official industry tracking had the film debuting to around $55-60 million. [33] [34] Analysts compared the debut to those of Us, A Quiet Place, Halloween, and It Chapter Two. Deadline Hollywood ' s Anthony D'Alessandro wrote, " A Quiet Place Part II is currently strong with females under 25, African Americans and Hispanic demos, but overall I hear it's strong with all quads. Home Movies Reviews March 9, 2020 A faulty foundation gives way to a wobbly structure. The United States’ immigration problem — a problem if only because no one can agree on how to reform our current system — is a talking point in political discussions and dinner table conversations, and its prevalence in our culture means it’s also found a home in genre films. From Undocumented (2010) to Rambo: Last Blood (2019), the subject has been approached from numerous angles and intents with the latest example moving from an engaging setup to an unmemorable execution. Alejandro ( Rigo Sanchez) is an undocumented immigrant working hard to build an American dream that will someday soon include his wife and child who are still south of the border. His younger brother Memo ( Josue Aguirre) is a recent arrival, and Alejandro is trying to instill a similar work ethic in the more volatile man. That includes waiting in parking lots to help customers with everything from loading a car to paving a driveway, and the pair of day laborers think they’ve hit a lucrative gig when a woman named Liz ( Lynn Collins) hires them for some work around her house. Two others, Hector ( Roberto Sanchez) and Antonio ( Thomas Chavira), join, and soon the four men are working at a remote country estate protected by an electric fence. Liz and her husband Ben ( James Tupper) aren’t shy about their “patriotic” beliefs and prove to be tough taskmasters, but they soon reveal themselves to be more than mere assholes — they’re also sadistic murderers. The smartest thing about Beneath Us is the word play of its title as the white couple’s racist disdain for the immigrants is quickly paired with the reveal of what they do with the workers once the job is completed. It teases a sly commentary that never comes, though, as the film instead settles for broad swipes and lazy genre beats. It’s the kind of film where the villains are so over the top while the potential victim pool holds no one nearly as interesting or motivated, and while that’s not good for any horror thriller it feels especially egregious here. Director/co-writer Max Pachman is making his feature debut here, but while he shoots a competent film the script (co-written by Mark Mavrothalasitis) can find neither thrills nor fun. The four men are slow interminably slow to react, and while it’s a horror trope that protagonists ignore the obvious warning signs there’s a distinction between a film like this and your typical slasher fare — we’re supposed to care about these guys. Without that they’re no different than the dumb teens that frequent endless sequels. Alejandro comes closest as his family concern and sincerity make him a sympathetic lead, but again and again choices are made (or not made) that are guaranteed to leave viewers frustrated. Memo is something of an ungrateful prick, and while a more dramatic story would give time to that character’s arc here we’re stuck with him being a dick. There are some campy vibes emanating from the homicidal couple as both characters are written big and played bigger. Collins in particular is turned all the way to eleven with her pristine woman of the house who’s outraged by the slightest misstep, but those portrayals also work to lessen the perceived threat. Neither feels all that dangerous yet the upper hand remains theirs, and while that’s a point in itself being made about immigrants having to walk on eggshells and avoid disturbing the “locals” it’s one that could have used more support. Similarly, a scene that sees one of the men mistaken for a burglar is meant to be its own commentary on profiling, but its setup makes it difficult to fault the “mistake. ” More fine-tuning around these ideas could have delivered real gut punches, but as it stands they’re more like gentle reminders that we’ve got a ling way to go as a country. The end strength of Beneath Us is the idea that stories like these, whether genre oriented or not, still deliver an important reminder about the current and ongoing inequities in our so-called greatest nation on Earth. Events here are exaggerated for effect, but the attitudes and ideas at play are all too grounded and real, and that’s far more horrifying.

This was a neat short film. Wellp my popcorn didn't even finish popping and I already watched the whole movie. I wish they would show real life bullying. Not this organized gang of affluent kids wearing black commando gear picking on a student like its a game. Just the common, ignorant, unplanned bullying that goes on everyday, that is real. Few teenage bullies are this sophisticated, from high class strata as these ones portrayed in the movie.
